The hotel later received state and national historic designations.
- February 1, 1859William Menger opened the hotel after starting Menger Brewery in 1855.
- April 14, 1885Businessman Richard King died at the hotel.
- 1887The Menger Bar was added to the hotel.

- 1976The hotel joined the National Register of Historic Places.
