History
British-funded companies later introduced mechanized extraction, pumping and ventilation.
- Early 18th c.The mine was founded; early mining used enslaved labour in open pits and small underground workings.
- 1729–1756Miners received concessions to work the deposits.
- 19th c.Eschwege formed the Sociedade Mineralógica de Passagem, built a mill with ten Californian stamps and established an underground mining plan.
- 1859Thomas Bawden acquired the mining rights and formed the Anglo Brazilian Gold Mining Company with Thomas Treloar.
- 1864–1873The Anglo Brazilian Gold Mining Company worked the deposits.
