History

  1. 1885–1959A funicular carried sightseers to the peak from 1885 to 1920. The No. 11 streetcar served the peak afterward, until 1959.
  2. 1920sThe hill hosted one of Canada’s best ski jumps near Côte-des-Neiges.
  3. 1940sHistorical ski facilities included two and a half miles of runs and a former alpine slope with a T-bar and a 100-foot drop.
  4. 1950s and 1998The forest was damaged by the 1950s morality cuts and the 1998 ice storm, but has largely recovered.
  5. Late 1970sThe Tam-Tams began as an African-drumming workshop at a jazz bar on Ontario Street.
