History

  1. Early yearsThe building first served as a skating rink and became a summer theatre the following year.
  2. Late 19th c.After a fire, Loew’s bought the building and rebuilt it as a theatre.
  3. 1923It became a cinema.
  4. 1930sAfter United Amusement bought the building, Emmanuel Briffa renovated and decorated it.
  5. 1960–1981The building returned to theatre use, then housed the adult cinema Eros through the 1970s until it closed in 1981.

  2. 1997L’Équipe Spectra acquired the building and made it a live performance hall.
  3. 2012During a Parti Québécois victory rally after the Quebec general election, a gunman killed a stagehand and wounded another person.
