History

  1. 1334–1514The foundation stone was laid in 1334; the retaining walls were completed in 1514, with Münster master builder Erhart Küng substantially involved.
  2. 1531The former churchyard of St. Vincenzen-Münster served as a cemetery until 1531, then became a park.
  3. 1986Excavations uncovered saint statues removed from the cathedral during the iconoclasm and discarded on the rubble slope.

  • Cable carThe Mattelift, an electric passenger lift known locally as the Senkeltram, connects the Matte quarter beside the Aare with the terrace. It opened in 1897.
