History

Lucerne’s first town defences likely began soon after the town’s foundation, and Peterskapelle had joined the wall circuit by 1234 at the latest.

  3. 2nd half of 14th c.Construction of the second wall circuit across the Musegg began.
  4. 1367Luegislandturm, the oldest known part of the wall, was built around or shortly after this year.
  5. 1370–1440Dendrochronological dating places construction across approximately 70 years.

Accessibility

  • Physical access The battlement path is narrow and difficult with a wheelchair or stroller. Tower access involves steep, narrow wooden stairs; visitors should be comfortable with heights and have an ordinary level of fitness.
