History

The Brides of Dracula, The Reptile and The Plague of the Zombies used Oakley Court as an exterior location. Some scenes from The Wildcats of St Trinian’s were filmed on its grounds. During filming of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the house had no heating or bathrooms, and Susan Sarandon developed pneumonia.

  1. 1859Sir Richard Hall-Say had Oakley Court built.
  2. 1874The house was sold to Lord Otho Fitzgerald, who lived there until 1882.
  3. 1894John Lewis Phipps bought the house.
  4. 1908The Phipps family sold it to Sir William Avery.
  5. LaterErnest Olivier bought the estate for £27,000.
