Know before you go

  • Buy tickets online through Ober Mountain’s website.
  • The Adventure Pass includes the Smoky Mountain Bobsled.
  • Monday, Thursday and Sunday: 10:00–18:00; Friday and Saturday: 10:00–19:00.

With kids

  • Family activities include a carousel, chair swings, a jump pillow and inflatables.
  • The mountain also offers a climbing wall and ice bumper cars.

Best time to visit

  • November–March is the colder season, with skiing and snowboarding in winter. These month ranges do not guarantee individual attractions are operating.
  • April–October is the warmer season, with downhill mountain biking and ziplining. These month ranges do not guarantee individual attractions are operating.

History

The tramway opened in 1973, followed by the Alpine Slide and Old Heidelberg Castle restaurant in 1976. Later additions included mountain biking, the Sky Village scenic deck and the Cloud Catcher Zipline. Von Roll Ltd. built the tram, and Doppelmayr replaced its cabins in 2007.

  1. 1962Gatlinburg Ski Resort opened with a lodge, four ski runs and an outdoor ice rink.
  2. 1972–1973Construction of the Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway began in 1972; it opened in 1973.
  3. 1976The Alpine Slide opened, served by the Scenic Chairlift. Old Heidelberg Castle restaurant also opened that year, serving German food with live entertainment.
  4. 1977The name Ober Gatlinburg means “Upper Gatlinburg” or “Top of Gatlinburg” in German.
  5. 1981The Black Bear Habitat opened.
