History

Ikeda Tsunamasa commissioned the garden across the Asahi River from Okayama Castle. Construction began in 1687 and finished in 1700. It served as a retreat for daimyō and a place to receive guests. Flooding and wartime bombing later damaged it; preserved paintings, diagrams, and records guided its restoration.
