History
Ostermalms Saluhall has traded as a food market since 1888. Architects Isak Gustaf Clason and Kasper Salin designed the hall and its complex cast-iron structure; construction took six months, with 300 to 500 workers employed at times.
- 1834Maria Christina Lindström opened Tysta Mari, Stockholm’s first women’s café.
- 1888Isak Gustaf Clason and Kasper Salin designed the hall and its cast-iron structure. It was built in six months and inaugurated by King Oscar II on 30 November. The market opened to the public on 1 December.
- 2016–2020The hall closed for renovation, while trading continued in a temporary building on Östermalmstorg.
- 2020The renovated hall reopened on 5 March, retaining its original form and colors.
- 2021The temporary market hall remained on Östermalmstorg until summer.
