The tubular bridge was fabricated in Spain and shipped to Calgary.

  1. September 2008Council approved the bridge amid controversy over awarding its design without a tender.
  2. March 2010Construction began with a temporary bridge upstream.
  3. Fall 2010Assembly began during the season originally planned for opening.
  4. November 2011The bridge was moved across the river.
  5. 24 March 2012The bridge opened to pedestrians and cyclists after weld inspections, repairs and damaged concrete slabs contributed to delays.
