Why go
- Some sea arches are over 30 metres high, like cathedral buttresses
Season and conditions
- Arches and sea caves can be seen only at low tide.
- Very low tides and spring tides open a sand link to the neighbouring beaches.

- The coast is an almost flat shelf, the Rasa Cantábrica.
- Summer brings heavy crowds.
Safety
- Return before the tide starts rising again.
- The sea rises quickly on this almost flat coast.
- The vertical cliffs cannot be climbed, so there is no escape from a rising tide.

Facilities
- Car park On the clifftop.
- Viewpoints Two, beside the car park.
- Wooden walkways Long walkways run along the beach from the clifftop.
- Online pass Access is by online pass request.
History
The Galician name is Praia de Augas Santas, meaning 'Beach of the Holy Waters'. Its cliffs look like the arches and towers of a church, which gave the beach its tourism name. Wind and salt water shaped the rock into arches, towers and caves. The tourism name is Playa de las Catedrales in Spanish and Praia das Catedrais in Galician.
- 2015The regional government plans restricted access to the beach, and visits require an online pass.
- TodayThe Xunta de Galicia declares it a natural monument, and it is a Natura 2000 special conservation zone.
