History

After several months his arthritis was greatly eased, and the reputation of the water spread abroad. The Priest Spring that feeds the pools is named after him. Its waters have been piped to the spa since 1902. The spa was built on the site of historic bathhouses that made the city world famous in the 1800s, and it is the original geothermal bathing sanctuary of New Zealand. Since then the spa has carried its present name and been an icon of Rotorua's tourism industry.
