History
The building’s present form reflects a major renovation around 1819, while parts of its ground-floor layout survive from 1470.
- 1470After a fire destroyed Unterseen, the building was rebuilt as a central department store.
- 1628It began serving as the town hall and courthouse.
- July 1816Elisabetha Grossmann, known as the “beautiful boatwoman of Brienz”, married the innkeeper’s son.
- 1818–1819A major renovation gave the building its present form.
- 1822–1847Felix Mendelssohn stayed at the building several times during visits to the region.
