History

After the 1962 purchase, the hotel underwent extensive rebuilding and refurbishment over 17 years. All rooms were renovated between 1983 and 1986.

  1. 1893The building was rebuilt to standard plans after a fire destroyed much of Grindelwald.
  2. c. 1905An eastern extension added 20 guest rooms and a dining room.
  3. 1912The hotel gained three floors and its present appearance.
  4. EarlierA Schindler passenger lift was among the hotel’s early upgrades.
  5. EarlierThe hotel park had a skating rink in winter.
