History

  1. 19th c.The hotel's story is linked to the Gasthaus zum Waldhaus, an early inn in Flims run by Maria Schreiber-Joos.
  2. Early historyRodolphe Töpffer visited the inn with students from his boarding school.
  3. 1869Walter Candrian won the Segnes guesthouse in a card game auction.
  4. 1870Mathias Candrian expanded the inn and turned it into the Hotel Segnes.
  5. 1873Friedrich Nietzsche stayed at the Segnes for four weeks and praised the lake baths and whey cures in his letters.

  1. 1901Anna Candrian sold the Segnes and its land to the Kur- und Seebadanstalt Flims-Waldhaus.
  2. 1903The hotel opened, with kerosene lamps in shared rooms and candles in guest rooms.
  3. 1904Electric lighting was installed.
  4. 1905A telephone was added.
  5. 1906Villas Helvetia and Gentiana were built nearby as annexes.
  6. 1946After Daniel Schmidt died, Mengia Schmidt and her daughter Carla ran the hotel.
  7. 1992Daniel Schmid's film Zwischensaison turned childhood memories of the hotel into dreamlike images.
  8. 2008Sandra Stahl and Christoph Schmidt became the hotel's managers.
