Booking a table
- Book ahead for a seat in the main hall; the restaurant also has several other rooms.
Atmosphere
- Long communal tables and benches give the hall a sociable feel; the table ends bear historic shipping-company arms.
- The courtyard seating area, called the Sonnendeck, opened in 2005.
History
The house provided food and lodging for elderly and needy people. Its hall hosted sailors and merchants planning trading voyages. The interior furnishings were restored between 1972 and 1976.
- 1229The house is first documented.
- 26 December 1401The Sankt Nikolaus Bruderschaft was founded to support seafarers.
- around 1530The Sankt Nikolaus and Sankt Annen brotherhoods merged as the Schippern Selshup; membership became compulsory for Lübeck seafarers.
- 1535–1538The guild bought the house opposite St. Jacobi and remodelled it, creating the historic hall and 18 apartments.
- 1614Maritime law required sailors’ disputes to come before the brotherhood, which also handled ship passes, ship valuations, mediation and harbour security.

- 1866Compulsory guild membership ended, and parts of the house opened to the public and were leased as a restaurant.
- 1868The building became a pub, a role it retains today.
- 2019Captain Silke Muschitz became the brotherhood’s first woman member.
