History
The building began as an open-air beer garden between two buildings.
- 1896A gallery was added and the former open-air beer garden was roofed over.
- 1991Corny Littmann and Prof. Norbert Aust took over the venue with designer Johannes Wienand and restaurateur Sture Salomon. During renovation, they uncovered gold columns, round mirrors and wall paintings beneath dark wood panelling. The theatre opened on 1 September with “Carmen,” starring Marlene Jaschke.
- Early 1990sLive TV broadcasts of the “Schmidt Mitternachtsshow” brought the theatre recognition across Germany.
- 2018“Die Weihnachtsbäckerei,” featuring songs by Rolf Zuckowski, premiered.
