History
Charles B. Dolphin designed the former postal building in Art Deco and Art Moderne styles. Its protected east and south façades survive along Bay Street and Lake Shore Boulevard in Queenston limestone. Inside the former sorting facility, conveyor belts carried unsorted mail upstairs and gravity-fed chutes handled sorting. The Tragically Hip performed the arena’s opening concert.
- 1941The former postal building on the site was constructed as the Toronto Postal Delivery Building.
- World War IIThe former postal building was temporarily used by the Department of National Defence for storage.
- 1946–1989It served as Metropolitan Toronto’s main postal terminal.
- 1994The Raptors’ owners bought the unused postal building from Canada Post.
- 1997Construction began on the Brisbin Brook Beynon-designed arena, planned for hockey and basketball with basketball as its main purpose.

How to get there
- TrainUnion Station serves rail, Subway Line 1, streetcars 509 and 510, and regional buses. An underground passage links its concourse to the arena; the onsite galleria also connects with Union Station, Bay Street and York Street. The arena connects to the underground PATH network.
