- 1841The first theatre opened on 13 April with an opera by Carl Maria von Weber.
- 1869A fire completely destroyed the first theatre on 21 September. Dresden residents pressed for the exiled Gottfried Semper to oversee rebuilding.
- 1870During reconstruction, performances took place at the Gewerbehaussaal.
- 1878Manfred Semper built the replacement from his father’s plans. The Neo-Renaissance house opened with works by Weber and Gluck, and was designed to fit its surroundings, including the Zwinger.
