History
Bob's Peak was a popular viewpoint, but its steep terrain made it hard to reach. Planning permission for the gondola came in 1965, and the company was then launched as a public company. Dumble became its first managing director. This site was the company's first location, established in 1967. The redevelopment adds a new gondola, a multistorey car park and two new main buildings. Work was paused in late 2020 because borders closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2023 a slip on Bob's Peak led to a NZ$10 million repair agreement.
- 1961A road is cut up the steep hill so visitors can reach the viewpoint.
- January 1964A chalet built on the peak opens.
- 17 November 1967The gondola opens officially and carries visitors up to the main complex.
- 1998The luge opens.
- February 2019The Environment Court approves the redevelopment of the site.
