History

The private Niagara International Centre consortium financed the C$7-million project with funding from Hershey Company. Canadian Pacific Hotels was hired to operate the lounge and restaurants.

  1. 1964Construction began with foundation work in May. Concrete casting began on September 23, and the tower rose 3.65 metres a day. Its name was announced on October 28.
  2. 1965The tower opened on October 6, with New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller and Ontario Premier John Robarts in attendance. Its Yellow Bug elevators were the first outside-mounted elevators of their kind in Canada.
  3. 2008The observation pod roof was restored to its original bronze colour in August and September.
