History
Early collections came mainly from mechanical engineering firms in the Baden–Zurich–Winterthur “golden triangle”. The interactive approach drew on ideas from Frank Oppenheimer, Richard Gregory, Steven Pizzey and educator Hugo Kükelhaus. The outdoor park extended hands-on experiments to water, wind and other natural elements. Technorama is operated by a foundation of the same name. A planned expansion will modernise building systems and the exterior envelope, and improve accessibility in exhibition spaces.
- 1947An association launched the idea of a technical museum in Switzerland.
- 1969The Technorama der Schweiz foundation was formed to present science and technology as a live experience.
- 1982The exhibition opened in a conventional technical museum format using labels and audiovisual material.
- 1990Under director Remo Besio, Technorama began shifting toward hands-on experimentation, drawing on science-centre ideas.
- around 2000The shift from a traditional museum to an experimental science centre was completed.
