History

After a glow-worm colony was found by the creek, tours followed timber-cart trails built by loggers in the early 1900s. Their popularity inspired a daytime walkway. Planning, research and approvals took nearly five years. The Skywalk opened in 2009 on 30 acres of privately owned rainforest, part of the original 130-acre holding.

  1. 1988Ian and Jennifer Moore bought 130 acres of land.
  2. 1989A restaurant opened on the upper part of the property.
  3. 1999–2004Nightly glow-worm tours ran on the property.
  4. 2004The Moores began the Skywalk project after selling the last subdivision.
  5. 2009The Skywalk opened, with Martin Ferguson officiating.
