History
Under Ptolemy VI, VIII and XII the temple was extended on all four sides and dedicated to Isis of Philae. Augustus and Tiberius completed the expansion. The temple was forgotten for twelve centuries before it was rediscovered. The pronaos with four composite columns collapsed in 1868 and is now lost. In the 19th century explorers and Egyptologists recorded the temple's gradual decline. In April 1970 the blocks went downriver to Alexandria and were then shipped through Valencia to Madrid. It reopened in 2017 after more than a year closed because of faulty climate control.
