History

The site was a coastal fort, Forte dei Cavalleggeri, with a tower and a cavalry unit that patrolled the coast against smuggling. After unification the city took the fort over, and it was dismantled in 1872, tower included. Storms and neglect badly damaged the terrace over the years.
