History

Ski jumping ended in 1969, and the jumps were removed in 1999. In the 1990s, investors planned hotels, apartments and an espionage museum around the former station, but the project failed amid opposition and rising costs.
- 1940sAn unfinished military research institute designed by Albert Speer stood on the site as part of the planned Germania project.
- After World War IIThe unfinished structure was partly demolished after the war; its remaining fragments were buried beneath rubble from Berlin’s wartime ruins.
- 1950West Berlin chose the site for a rubble dump in June.
- 1961Allied listening units began operating on the hill in July.
- 1963Construction of a permanent listening station began in October.
