History
The earliest record of the site is from 1613. Bridge Street is first recorded then as a plot for a house, and a merchant's dwelling stood there by that time. The land by the river was once riverside marshland, reclaimed for building. Excavations next to the pub found wicker mats and a 13th-century post-and-wattle wall. The current buildings replaced a large timber house. Irish patriots Robert Emmet, Edmund Burke and Wolfe Tone drank here.
