History

The resort grew from a four-star country house hotel called The Manor House. During the Roman period, roads crossed the site. Course construction uncovered two pottery kilns and a drying kiln; one pottery kiln was preserved by redesigning a golf green.

By 1634The site was occupied as a residence.
1860Coal baron Thomas Powell built the manor house, initially named Coldra House.
After 1915Sir John Beynon bought the hall and added a wing.
1940–1977The house became Lydia Beynon Maternity Hospital. More than 60,000 babies were born there, including future resort owner Sir Terry Matthews.
1982After refurbishment and expansion, the manor house reopened as the Celtic Manor Hotel.
