History
The steep site required cellars to be cut down to Gloucester Street, removing much evidence of earlier buildings. Excavations for the northern courtyard fire stairs later exposed part of the former Gloucester Street roadway and kerb.
- 1816A hotel is thought to have stood on the site as early as this year.
- 1832–1834Andrew Coss ran The Punch Bowl on part of the site.
- 1870sBelleek Terrace occupied the site along Gloucester Walk. It was demolished around the start of World War I.
- 1921The second Glenmore Hotel on Cumberland Street was built by D. M. Mitchell to designs by Tooth & Co. resident architects. Its predecessor stood farther north and was condemned in connection with the Harbour Bridge approaches. The new pub opened in July, after the old hotel was handed over on 5 July, and has been continuously occupied since.
- 1973Structural work shortened the tiled bar.
