History
The hotel’s main building is on the State Heritage Register.
- 1885–86Built as a hotel, it became a popular gathering place in the developing settlement.
- Gold rush eraGeorge Hiscox added a two-storey verandah.
- 1898The adjoining Vaudeville Theatre opened on 3 January with a burlesque of “Sleeping Beauty”; it later hosted concerts and dances.
- 1929The hotel and adjoining theatre were auctioned and sold to Swan Brewery Co Ltd for £25,000.
- May 2016The restored hotel reopened.
