History
It may first have been designed as a house; by 1725 it had become a coaching inn. Part of the ground floor later housed Lloyds Bank before returning to hotel use by the late 20th century.
- 1717Built by Charles Bathurst.
- By 1725Possibly conceived as a house, the building had become a busy coaching inn for travellers, aristocrats and Richmond gentry.
- 1765–1897Bought by Sir Lawrence Dundas; his family owned it until 1897.
- 1813Demolition of the neighbouring inn made way for a street and the first-floor ballroom.
- 1916Part of the ground floor was rented to Lloyds Bank, with a separate entrance.
