Why go

  • The spiral ramp, 209 m long with seven and a half turns, is the only way up; there are no stairs.
  • The observation platform, 34.8 m above street level, with views over the rooftops of the old part of Copenhagen.
  • The planet machine on the wall above the ramp, which Ole Rømer installed in 1697.
  • The concert in the Spiral Ramp on the shortest day of the year, where singer Sonja Strange climbs the spiral while performing.
  • The permanent Ole Rømer exhibition on his discovery from Jupiter's moons that light has a finite speed; admission includes it.

What's inside

  • The Library Hall above the Trinitatis Church, where a current exhibition is shown.
  • The central cavity marks the kilometre zero of Denmark, set by Thomas Bugge; visitors stand in it and look down 25 m.
  • A niche near the top opens onto the cavity, where a glass plate stops objects from falling.
  • Another niche leads to the historic latrines; the tower once had two, one halfway up and one just below the roof.
  • The waste container was emptied only in 1921, the equivalent of nine truckloads.
  • At the top are a small planetarium and the oldest observatory in Europe still in use, with a refracting telescope giving 80 to 450 times magnification.
  • Light Echoes, on Tycho and Sophie Brahe's 1572 Stella Nova, the new star of that year; it is included in admission.
  • Ad Lucem, 40 works in a design that mirrors the tower's shape.
  • Refractions of Ice, ice-core crystals taken from three kilometres deep in the Greenland ice sheet.

Accessibility
