History
The castle’s history includes a murder within the Kyburg family, periods as a local administrative seat and court, and use as a prison. After the regional court left in 2009, the complex reopened following renovations in 2014.
- Early Middle AgesA small fort and church stood on the castle hill.
- 1218The House of Kyburg inherited the castle and added upper levels.
- 1322Eberhard II von Kyburg murdered his brother Hartmann II at the castle.
- Bernese periodThe castle served as a local administrative seat and court.
- 17th centuryA prison operated beneath the donjon roof.
