History
The ancient settlement was a walled Maya port and trading center. Pilgrims departed from here for Cozumel to worship Ix Chel. Its Costa Oriental architecture features decorated temple façades and recessed lintels. The park funded reconstruction of Maya pyramids and buildings, with specialists supplied by Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History.

- 1984A group of Mexican entrepreneurs led by architect Miguel Quintana Pali bought five hectares of land for a private project.
