History
Surgeon Maurice Edmond Müller founded and endowed the institution dedicated to Paul Klee. The collection grew through family and foundation donations, loans and 200 private loans. Nina Zimmer has led the museum since August 2016 and also directs Kunstmuseum Bern. A 2025 focus exhibition examined Klee’s influence on books, showing just over 150 books and 27 original works.
- 1997Livia Klee, Paul Klee’s daughter-in-law, donated almost 690 inherited works to Bern’s city and canton, advancing the museum project.
- 1998Alexander Klee donated about 850 works and documents.
- 2005Creaviva opened in the centre’s north wing.
- 2025The centre marked its 20th anniversary with a public celebration.
