History

The founders wanted to give animals conditions close to their natural habitats and help visitors understand wildlife conservation.

  1. 1974Watchmaker Charly Bulliard and his brother Max opened Zoo de Servion. They planted 900 trees when they created it.
  2. 1981The zoo’s first tiger pair arrived: Siberian tigers.
  3. 2004Two Syrian brown bears arrived in summer. Both were born at Goldau Zoo in 2003.
  4. 2010Charly’s nephew, Roland Bulliard, took over management. The bear enclosure was expanded, and snow leopards Milla from Finland and Altai from Berlin Zoo arrived.
  5. 2021–2022Snow leopards Guilda and Kafka formed a pair in 2021. Guilda gave birth to two cubs in June 2022.

  2. 2024The zoo welcomed eight million visitors over its first 50 years.
