History
The guild house hosted political and business meetings, and the guild set bread and flour prices. At the annual “Bot,” members ate and drank into the small hours. The cooperative maintains ties among bakers and preserves traditions such as the bread market and annual baker’s feast.
- 1408The Lucerne baker’s guild was founded with craftsmen, bakers and millers. Boat crews joined in 1598, followed by pie bakers in 1697.
- 1829–1875The guild became a bakers’ association in 1829. The house was auctioned for 80,000 Francs in 1874, and the association was dissolved in 1875.
- 1977The Lucerne association of bakers and pastry bakers bought the house. A cooperative guild house restored its original value and purpose.
